When it comes to planning holidays or going somewhere for business, we all want the best flight prices. It feels absolutely amazing to find a cheap flight that matches your needs. Finding cheap flights can feel as hard as looking for that needle in a haystack. But, one of the most important factors that come into play is the departure time. The season, the time of the week, and the exact daytime all play a huge role to scoring that cheap ticket. Picking the right time to travel can save you a lot of nerves and money that you can spend on accommodation and experiences.
When do I save the most money?
Most of the travel destinations in the world have a high season, meaning a time when they are very popular to visit. If you want to get a good deal on a flight, you should probably not book during those times, because the demand is very high. For example, if you’re planning on going to Switzerland, go during the summer and not when people are on winter holiday. The same goes for warm places – travel there during the winter time, because most of the people want to spend their summer vacation lazying around on a sandy beach. Again, make sure to check out the high season for the country or region you’re planning on traveling to. It’s safe to say, the best time of the year to fly somewhere is not when everybody is flying there.
Once you’ve decided which time of the year you want to fly, check your calendar and see if you can leave during the week. When going on business trips most people leave on a Monday to start their week. Usually they will come back right in time for the weekend, so on a Thursday or Friday. Vacationers will oftentimes leave on weekends. Therefore the absolute best days of the week to fly are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Just like when booking seasonal, it’s a matter of demand.
Now if you happen to find a good deal on a flight, the chances are very high that the departure is somehow in the early morning hours. Other cheap flight times include lunch and dinner time. There are two things people can not live without: sleep and food. So when its sleepy time and when your stomach is growling, it’s the best time of the day to fly.
When is traveling the least stressful?
When traveling for business purposes, budgeting may not be as important. In this case you’re in luck, because you can chose the most convenient time for you to fly. If it’s in your budget, even flying first and business class can save you a lot of stress. But traveling luxurious or not, delays and waiting for your flight are never fun. Lucky enough for us travelers, there are statistics for which times it’s the most pleasant to fly at.
Just like when looking for good flight deals, the early morning hours are the safest bet, when it comes to the least amount of delay time overall. If possible make sure to avoid flying during the evening, when people are heading back home.
If it fits into your schedule consider traveling on a Saturday, here you only have about an 18% chance of your flight being delayed, compared to when you travel on a Friday with almost 30% chance of delay. Overall it’s probably more reliable to look at the time of the day than the weekday though. As far as seasonal delays and flight cancellations go, it depends on the destination and time of the year you’re going there.
When trying to save money and your nerves, it is essential to watch out for when you’re flying. But YAY for the budget travelers, because a lot of the best deals are during the least stressful times.
Now fasten your seat belts, sit back, and enjoy the flight!
